The Gift of Giving
One of my very first posts was about the fundraiser I held at The Little Rock Climbing Center, called “Climb it for Climate.” Well after a long two months the dream of giving the gift to CEDESOL has come true. After some trouble with different banks, including getting my atm card turned off, I was able to withdraw the money and make the donation! Where is this donation going you ask?
SCHOOLS and SCHOOL CHILDREN!
When the fundraiser was held the original intent was to purchase solar stoves for families. Well as usually happens in the non-profit world the need is higher in another area. The rural schools cook for hundreds of children every day over open flames and sometimes are able to afford a jar of gas. My donation will be going to the construction of large scale rocket stoves and then their distribution to area schools. The design is coming from fellow volunteers Erik and Mike, who are University of Dayton engineering students. Their design boils 70 litres of water in forty minutes, using 4 kilograms of wood! Job well done gentleman!
A big thank you to the following:
Little Rock Climbing Center, Dean Skip Rutherford, Bob Gee, Betsy McManus, Dan O’Byrne, Thecia Taylor (Partners for America), and everyone else who contributed either on Facebook, twitter, or real life! Thank you all so much!!!

This is the powerful rocket stove the engineers built, check out the size of the pots to be used!

Look how much little wood it uses!
